Satisfy Your Need For Speed
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- If you're looking to drive like a pro there is one College Station driving course that can make that happen. The Texas Report's Jeff McAdam suited up with some rookies for an inside look at riding on the edge.
Have you ever dreamed about being a racecar driver? Well here's your chance.
At Texas World Speedway's Performance Driving School you get the opportunity to fly down straightaways, corner at speeds close to 70 mph, but that all comes when and if you think you can handle it.
"We get a lot of people to come out their first time and you can see on their face when they first walk up to you to register that they don't know if they are in the right place, if they should actually be doing this, if they made the right choice being here," said Chief Driving Steward, Misty Cain.
Once the rookies hit the track, nerves turn to adrenaline.
"By the end of the weekend I have people coming up to me saying 'I had the best time ever, I am definitely coming back next event,'" said Cain.
Talk about the need for speed. What does a couple hundred dollars get you? Well it might set you back in your pocketbook, but if you ask 81 of these racers out here they will tell you its well worth it. You might pay for it in there, but you can do certain things out here on the track you just cannot do out on the street.
"You have to be on such guard when you're driving in the city streets, you have speed limits and things like that. There's no speed limit here so that's a lot of fun," said one racer.
And getting the chance to max your speedometer aside there's another benefit to racing on the track.
"You don't have to worry about being pulled over and ticketed," noted one racer.
"No speeding tickets here," added Cain.
