TWS Announces Texas Race of Champions

By LISA GORZYCKI

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (February 28, 2011) - Texas World Speedway is excited to announce its new Racing series, the Texas Race of Champions. These Races will feature a multiple Class championship points structure that is to be run in conjunction with the Performance Driving School.

The new series will bring exciting wheel to wheel Sports Car racing multiple times a year to TWS, at an affordable cost.  Registration will be open to competitors that currently hold competition licenses and cars with logbooks issued by SCCA, NASA, PCA, and CVAR.  Currently TxRoC is only open to registrants that meet these requirements, as the intent is to provide a race series for experienced drivers.  The new series will also include the *13/13 policy for no-contact racing to keep the competition safe and economical.

Texas Race of Champions will be featured as one run Group of the PDS weekend, with 4 sessions, including, practice, qualifying and up to 2 races per day. Participants will be allowed to register for one, or both days.  Current PDS customers can still enjoy the same track time and instruction provided by the PDS, as run groups and times are being reformatted to take better advantage of group sizing and scheduling, with the addition of a racing element for drivers seeking wheel to wheel competition.

This summer marks the opener for the Texas Race of Champions, set for June 25th-26th during the PDS event.    The race series will feature several track configurations and directions for the remaining year. TxRoC will incorporate a Spec Miata Class that will not adhere strictly to NASA or SCCA rules.   Other classes will be based on an enforceable horsepower to weight ratio using a trackside Dynojet 224x, and Intercomp scales as well as other factors.

We will announce finalized rules and classifications soon.  Awards and prizes will be based on participation during the inaugural year, but for future events, TxRoC looks to add series sponsorship and a strong contingency program.

To accommodate the new series, TWS will be purchasing new timing software for our AMB timing loop and will be integrating a Time Trial Competition into the advanced run group at PDS.  This offers an alternative to our advanced run group participants who currently do not hold a competition license or drive a competition ready race car, however all cars that participate in Time Trials will be required to have an AMB transponder . Some additional safety considerations and rules will be released for cars that are to be eligible to compete in the Time Trials.

Future Texas Race of Champions events will follow the PDS schedule for the remaining year. PDS dates are:

June 25th-26th

July 30th-31st

Aug. 27th-28th

September 24th-25th

Nov. 19th-20th

Dec. 10th-11th

For information about Texas Race of Champions please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  More information about rules, pricing, and other details will be forthcoming.  For those who are interested in competition, please add some information in your email inquiry that includes licenses you currently hold, your vehicle, its class and where you currently compete.  Rules and Classifications are being finalized; however we would like to hear any and all input to help provide you with the series YOU all want.

·         13/13 Policy is used as a deterrent for competitors who are involved in racing incidents such as contact with other vehicles, non-contact at fault incidents, or off-track excursions that result in loss of green flag racing or damage.  If a driver is found to be at fault during an incident that is eligible for review under the 13-13 Policy, then that driver will be placed on probation for 13 months. During that probationary period if that driver is involved in another at fault incident, then that driver will be suspended from competition in the TxRoC for a further 13 months and must be reinstated by the Race Steward before he or she can return to competition.  All incidents will be reviewed by the Race Steward and will be enforced on a case to case basis.  The goal is to promote safe and conscientious racing with a defined set of consequences for unsafe or over aggressive actions during competition.  TxRoC looks to promote a racing environment that limits contact and damage to race cars to help keep costs low, and safety high.
