About Open Track Days
An Open Track Day (OTD), also known as a Lapping Day, allows drivers holding a current competition license from any major sanctioning body or PDS ‘solo’ qualified drivers to drive on the racetrack as fast as is safely possible. There is no racing for this event, only wide open track time at full speed. These events almost always are held on a Friday prior to a weekend event. Open Track sessions typically start on the hour, with short intermissions for safety purposes. Drivers may run all sessions, pending a safety review by the Chief Driving Instructor and Chief Steward before each session.
Full Day and Half Day OTDs – On the day of the event, gates open an hour before Open Track begins with a driver's meeting thirty minutes prior to hot track. Drivers may be issued a driver’s information sheet for a specific event, in lieu of a driver’s meeting. Full Day OTDs generally run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Half Day OTDs run times are seasonal and may start any time between noon and 4pm.
The TWS Motorsports Open Track Day program is an extension of the Performance Driving School, providing drivers an opportunity to rapidly build experience and improve their skills in a controlled, driving education environment. Education, courtesy for others, and safety are stressed at all times.
All drivers’ qualifications and the designation of any participant's run group is subject to the approval of, and reviewed by, the Chief Driving Instructor and Chief Steward.

TWS Driving Requirements
Drivers must have a valid driver's license. If a driver is under 18, a parent must sign a minor’s waiver and be present at the event.
Drivers must be "solo qualified" by PDS, or provide a current competition license from any major sanctioning body, including but not limited to SCCA, NASA, PCA, Vintage (CVAR), BMWCCA etc. ChumpCar and LeMons licenses are accepted on a provisional basis and may be restricted at the Chief Stewards discretion.
All convertibles must have a roll bar, or integrated Roll-Over Protection System (ROPS). Any make of car delivered with factory installed roll over protection meets the minimum standards for TWS PDS and OTD events, but not T&T events. The windshield alone is not considered to be factory roll over protection. TWS recommends that the roll bar or ROPS extend above the driver's and passenger's heads when properly seated, belted, and wearing helmets. TWS recommends that convertibles have the soft top up or a hard top in place while on track. This includes sunroofs, T-Tops, and Targa tops. Convertibles without a top in place are considered 'open cars' and will comply with open car safety requirements.
Convertibles driving with the top down, or top removed, are considered 'open cars'. This includes cars with T-Tops removed, Targa tops removed, and sunroofs open. TWS recommends all drivers and passengers in open cars have window and roof nets, or wear arm restraints, such that the persons' arms cannot extend outside of the vehicle in the event of a roll over.
Drivers must have a completed and signed Technical Inspection Form before driving on the track. Drivers must present the Technical Inspection Form when checking in at Event Registration.
